Welcome to Fiordland!

First, yes, it's spelled wrong. Here's the scoop on that! Did you know there is a difference between a sound and a fjord? Me neither, but a sound is a river-carved inlet and a fjord is a glacier-carved inlet. We went to Milford Sound today, but, guess what, it is actually a fjord. By the time anybody figured that out though, signs had already been made, boats had been painted, etc. Hmmmmm What to do? They decided to name the whole area Fiordland! But again, someone screwed up and spelled it with an "i" instead of a "j". However, signs had been made, businesses had been named. So they just pretended they meant to do it that way and claim it!

You can barely get any closer than our town of Te Anau which is a 2 hour drive to Milford Sound. After getting up at 5:00 AM and pouring ourselves into the car, we head to our day trip of kayaking the fjords. (Yes, I'm going to spell it right!)

Aren't we just the cutest things ever! It was so cold that I was shivering through the whole instruction time! They have you strip down to your underwear and then give us 5 layers of this, that and whatever to put on! So that helped!

And well worth it! There are other ways of doing the fjords, but we agreed that kayaking is the best! You can take a catamaran cruise and some other boat ride things, but this way we were right on the water taking in all the majestic scenery in front of us.

We stopped for lunch along the way on a rocky beach, just ate and took it all in!

It ended up being a beautiful day. Couldn't have asked for more!

I'll leave you with a funny note. There is a tunnel that is a one-way only, so if your light is red, you sit and wait for all the cars coming your way to clear the tunnel. There is a bird that sits by the side of the road and when the cars stop, he jumps up on your windshield and wants to eat the rubber on your wipers. Crazy things going on over here!

And That's A Wrap!

We captured this gorgeous sunset as we left Maui, our last port of call, and essentially the last stop before getting off the ship in ...
