A food that is native here is something called Vegemite. We've talked to people and there are those who love it (mainly because they grew up on it) or those who hate it. There doesn't seem to be a lot of in between. Those who love it talk about spreading it thinly on bread or crackers and then there's always something else they put on too. Maybe honey, jam, tomatoes, avocado. Just something to offset the salty taste of the Vegemite. We see it in every grocery and most of our hosts have it available for breakfast.
Our current host has little packets of it, kind of like jelly they would give you at breakfast in a restaurant.
You see it there in the lower right? It's just black stuff. I spread it on just a corner of my toast because I have decided that I cannot come clear to Australia and not at least try it.
I'm hesitant, or is that dread on my face?
But here's the money shot!
Can you guess what I think of Vegemite?
Hahaha You ate too much at once!! You must spread LOTS of butter on the toast then spread the Vegemite veryyyy thinly. It’s really yummy that way!! Good on you for trying though!!
ReplyDeleteApparently I hadn't spread it verrrrrrrry thinly enough! I did have butter on the toast too. I scared Bruce so much, he didn't even try!
ReplyDeleteI will have to check it out when I travel there. I can ask my nephew and niece about it.
