Spending Our Kids' Inheritance

And here I thought I would not be blogging today! First, sorry Kelli and Stephen. You need to make your own money because ours will be well spent!

Our 4 hour drive today took us to our next destination of the Blue Mountains. Our big plans will take place tomorrow, so today we thought we'd just go into the town center to look around and get a bite to eat. Ha! Little did we know.............

Bruce knew that he wanted a true Australian hat to take home with him. I kept questioning him at home as to what that meant, never really getting an answer. He just kept saying, "I'll just know it when I see it." I was picturing something Crocodile Dundee-ish or the like. The town center in Katoomba is pretty much one street with 7 coffee shops on the one strip and a kajillion little restaurants. Tucked in among that are a few little mom and pop type shops. One of the first we see is a hattery. And guess what? He saw IT! It was soooooo easy, the first hat he tried on and bingo!

It's made of pure kangaroo and is packable. Looks rather nice, doesn't it? And to go along with the kangaroo theme, he also got a kangaroo leather wallet. Those poor kangaroos I've been fawning over.........

We move on down the street, happy with that purchase and what do we come across, but an opal store! Now we're talking! The man who owns and runs the store also polishes all his opals. Remember that I am sorely disappointed that I think I can't have a ring. So I'm looking at loose stones, pendants, etc.  However, upon further discussion with him, (and no, he wasn't a hardcore salesman), just maybe a ring is possible. There's a whole lot about opals I never knew before - things like doublets, triplets, etc. I won't bore you, but all this is taken into consideration. And then I look down and it struck me! Just like in Florence, Italy when I fully intended to buy a ring in Paris, this 3 stone opal ring with its bright flashes of color was going to be mine. As always, this picture just does not do it justice, but.........

I got my ring! Bruce got his hat! So what do we do next? Go to the most expensive place in the town center to have a drink, of course! Gee, we hadn't already spent enough money, right? The Carrington. Just sounds hoity toity.

Buying missions are accomplished! And there's another huge chunk taken out of the inheritance money.......
