I'm Still A Bit Hungry

We went on an excursion to Fraser Island today in this:

Now this is a heck of an improvement on what the guys took across terrain to their surfing yesterday. This was an air conditioned bus. However, it seemed to take foreeeeeeeeever to get to where we were going. Probably because we were bouncing up and down and rocking back and forth over what no one in the world would call roads. Some of it was on the beach and a lot of it was in forest. We finally reached a beautiful white sand beach where we were able to relax while our guide cooked us lunch. I just love the turquoises of their water.

Lunch! THIS is where my troubles began! I had read the reviews on this particular trip. Many people talked about the fact that there was a lunch stealer always lurking about. And we're not talking about a person. It's this little guy - the kookaburra!

He looks pretty innocent, doesn't he? Ha! Sure enough, there he was looking down at the 20 of us on the tour as we ate. Apparently he wants your meat or fish. I ate my whole meal like this

totally hunched over my plate, protecting my food. Thought I had it covered! Again, ha! Then I made the mistake! I sat straight up while I cut my steak. That guy swooped down in a nanosecond and grabbed my whole steak! As my husband says, I screamed like a girl, but then I am one. He dropped it on the ground and went back up to eye somebody else's plate. Me? While the guide had more meat, I had kind of lost the whole desire. Especially since this guy started sneaking around the picnic tables.

So now, I'm hunching over my food AND I have to pick my feet up off the ground. Just so you know, I was the only one who got their food stolen. I can already hear my kids saying, "Of course you were!"

Our guide led us on a rainforest hike where it was so peaceful.

And so ended another successful day in Australia!

Oh, except I AM still a bit hungry............
